The decision is really about maintenance tolerance, not about look. If you will genuinely come in every two to three weeks, extensions give you more. If you will not, a lift will look better in week five than a neglected extension set will.

2. What a Lash Lift Involves

The appointment. You lie back with your eyes closed for 45 to 60 minutes. Your lashes are lifted onto a silicone shield sized to your lash length, a softening solution is applied to reshape them, then a setting solution locks the new curl. A conditioning treatment finishes it.

What it does well:

• Opens the eye without anything added
• Zero daily maintenance — no brushing, no avoiding oil cleansers, no sleeping position rules
• Mascara still works, and works better than it did before
• Grows out invisibly. There is no point where it starts to look untidy — it just gradually returns to normal

The appointment. Two to three hours for a first full set, lying down with your eyes closed. Each synthetic lash is bonded individually to a natural lash. A consultation comes first, to agree on curl, length and set type.

The upkeep is the real commitment. Your natural lashes shed on their own cycle, and each one takes its extension with it. After two to three weeks a set looks noticeably thinner, which is why fills exist. Skipping fills does not save money — past about four weeks you often need a new full set rather than a fill.

Daily rules that come with extensions:

• No oil-based cleansers or makeup removers near the lash line
• Brush them daily with a clean spoolie
• Avoid sleeping face-down
• Skip mascara — it is difficult to remove without damaging the bond
• Be careful with steam and direct hot water in the first 24 to 48 hours

The point of the table is not that one is better value. It is that the time commitment differs more than the money does. Twenty-plus appointments a year is a real thing to sign up for, and it is worth knowing before the first one rather than after the third.
