TL;DR

  • Paraffin is warm, melted wax that coats the skin, holds in heat and moisture, and is peeled off after a short rest.
  • It is a comfort and softening step, not a medical treatment. Skin feels softer and warmer straight away.
  • On our menu, paraffin is included in the Espresso ($115), Milk & Honey ($135), Herbal Detox ($150) and Marvelous CBD Luxury ($180) pedicures; the CBD Luxury includes it for hands and feet.
  • Skip warm wax if you have open cuts, sores or reduced feeling in your feet. The American Diabetes Association warns that nerve damage can make it easy to burn your feet without noticing.
  • Lock in the softness with moisturiser applied to damp skin, as the American Academy of Dermatology recommends.

`paraffin treatment`, `paraffin wax for hands` and `paraffin pedicure las vegas` are popular searches as the weather cools and skin starts to crack. This guide explains what paraffin does, where it appears on our menu, and when it is not a good idea.

What Is a Paraffin Treatment?

A paraffin treatment is a spa step in which hands or feet are coated in warm, melted paraffin wax, wrapped to hold the heat, and left to rest for a few minutes before the wax is peeled away. The warmth and the seal help skin feel softer and more supple, which makes it popular for dry, rough hands and heels.

What it is not: paraffin is different from hair-removal wax. It does not pull hair or remove skin; it simply sits on the surface and peels off in one piece.

1. What Paraffin Can Do for Dry Skin

What you will noticeWhy
Softer, smoother skinThe wax seal holds moisture against the skin
Warmth and comfortThe wax holds gentle heat while it rests
Better feel from moisturiserSkin is warm and hydrated when moisturiser goes on
A relaxing pauseYou rest with hands or feet wrapped

Realistic expectations. Paraffin makes skin feel softer for a while; it does not change dry skin permanently. Lasting improvement comes from daily moisturising. Deep heel cracks that bleed or hurt should be seen by a doctor or podiatrist.

Why it suits Las Vegas. Low humidity, sun and air conditioning dry out hands and feet quickly. Our winter nail care guide explains how the dry months affect nails and cuticles too.

2. Which Pedicures Include Paraffin

Paraffin is built into our upper-tier spa pedicures. Prices from our current menu (add $20 for gel colour on any tier):

Spa pedicurePriceParaffin
Signature Deluxe$80Not included
Pearl$95Not included
Espresso$115Included
Milk & Honey$135Included
Herbal Detox$150Included
Marvelous CBD Luxury$180Included, for hands and feet

Choosing a tier. If dry, rough skin is your main concern, Espresso is the first tier with paraffin. Milk & Honey and Herbal Detox add more ritual around it, and the CBD Luxury tier treats both hands and feet. Our spa pedicure guide compares the tiers in full, and the pedicure price guide explains what drives each price.

Classic or gel pedicure instead? A classic pedicure ($45) or gel pedicure ($65) does not include paraffin. Ask us at booking about options; current prices are always on our pricing page.

3. How a Paraffin Treatment Is Done

  1. Skin check. We look for cuts, sores or broken skin first.
  2. Clean and moisturise. Hands or feet are cleaned, and a lotion or oil may be applied.
  3. Temperature check. The wax should feel warm and comfortable, never hot. Tell us immediately if it feels too warm.
  4. Coating. The hand or foot is dipped or brushed with wax several times to build a layer.
  5. Wrap and rest. The coated skin is wrapped to hold warmth while you relax.
  6. Peel and finish. The wax is peeled off in one piece and any remaining moisturiser is massaged in.

Hygiene. Nevada requires single-use items to be thrown away after one client, and the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology requires foot spas to be cleaned and disinfected between clients. Used paraffin should never go back into the warmer after it has touched someone's skin.

4. Who Should Skip Paraffin

Warm wax is gentle for most people, but not for everyone. Skip paraffin, or ask your doctor first, if you have:

  • Open cuts, sores, rashes or broken skin on the hands or feet. Nevada's foot spa rules (NAC 644A.735) require technicians to check feet for open sores, cuts, insect bites or anything that weakens the skin barrier before a pedicure soak.
  • Diabetes or reduced feeling in your hands or feet. The American Diabetes Association warns that nerve damage can "lessen your ability to feel pain, heat, and cold," and that "it is easy for you to burn them with hot water, hot water bottles, or heating pads."
  • Poor circulation or a circulation condition.
  • Sensitivity to heat or a skin condition that flares with warmth.

Tell us before the service about any of these. We would rather skip a step than risk a burn on skin that cannot feel heat properly.

5. Keeping Hands and Feet Soft Afterwards

The American Academy of Dermatology's dry skin tips apply directly:

  • "Limit baths and showers to five to ten minutes, using warm water."
  • Pat skin dry and immediately apply a fragrance-free moisturiser while it is still damp.
  • Moisturise several times a day, including after washing your hands.
  • Choose a cream or ointment for very dry skin, and take time to massage it in.

For heels: apply a thick cream at night and wear cotton socks. For hands: keep a small tube of hand cream by the sink and in your bag, and wear gloves for washing up and cleaning.

Pedicure aftercare. Our pedicure aftercare guide covers how to keep polish and skin looking good between visits. For the face, our hydrating facial guide applies the same moisture-first approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a paraffin treatment do?

It coats hands or feet in warm wax that holds in heat and moisture. When the wax is peeled off, skin feels softer, smoother and warmer.

Is a paraffin treatment good for dry skin?

It is a comforting softening step that helps dry skin feel better for a while. Daily moisturising is what keeps skin soft long term.

Which pedicures include paraffin in Las Vegas?

At Marvelous Nails & Lashes, paraffin is included in the Espresso ($115), Milk & Honey ($135), Herbal Detox ($150) and Marvelous CBD Luxury ($180) spa pedicures.

Does the CBD pedicure include paraffin for hands too?

Yes. The Marvelous CBD Luxury pedicure includes a paraffin treatment for both hands and feet.

Is paraffin wax safe for people with diabetes?

Ask your doctor first. The American Diabetes Association warns that nerve damage can reduce your ability to feel heat, making it easy to burn your feet.

Does paraffin wax hurt?

No. It should feel warm and comfortable. Tell your technician straight away if it ever feels hot.

Can I get paraffin with a cut on my hand or foot?

No. Open cuts, sores and broken skin should heal before any paraffin treatment or pedicure soak.

How long do paraffin results last?

Skin feels softer for a day or two. Moisturising after every wash helps the effect last longer.
