TL;DR

  • Gel removal is included in our gel manicure ($55), soft gel pedicure ($65) and gel polish change ($45+).
  • Take Off Dip or Gel-X: $10+. Take Off with Service: $15+. Take Off without Service: $30+.
  • Removal alone costs more because it is a full appointment for one step, with all the soaking and conditioning still required.
  • Never pick or prise off product. The American Academy of Dermatology says picking or filing off gel can significantly damage your nails.
  • After removal, you can rebook, take a short break with plain nail care, or switch to a gentler service.

`nail removal cost`, `how much to take off acrylic nails` and `gel removal near me` are common questions, and the answer depends on what you are wearing and whether you are getting something new. This page sets out every removal price on our menu and what you get for it.

What Does Nail Removal Cost?

At Marvelous Nails & Lashes in Las Vegas, nail removal costs $10+ to take off dip powder or Gel-X before a new service, $15+ to take off other product with a new service, and $30+ for removal on its own. Gel removal is already included in the gel manicure, soft gel pedicure and gel polish change, so there is no extra fee for those.

The "+" means a starting price. Very thick product, long extensions or several layers of old product take longer to remove safely, and the price can rise. Ask for the total before the soak starts.

1. Removal Prices by Product

You are wearing…And you are booking…Removal linePrice
Gel polishGel manicure, soft gel pedicure or gel polish changeIncluded$0
Dip powderA new serviceTake Off Dip or Gel-X$10+
Gel-XA new serviceTake Off Dip or Gel-X$10+
Acrylic, hard gel or poly gelA new setTake Off with Service$15+
Any productNothing new, removal onlyTake Off without Service$30+

Example totals:

  • Old dip off, new gel manicure: $10 + $55 = $65+
  • Old acrylic off, new Gel-X full set: $15 + $79 = $94+
  • Old Gel-X off, new Gel-X full set: $10 + $79 = $89+
  • Old gel off, gel manicure: $55 (removal included)
  • Removal only, any product: $30+

Thinking about a fill instead? If your enhancement is intact and only the regrowth gap needs attention, a fill is often better than removal and a new set. Fills on our menu are $69 for Gel-X, hard gel and poly gel, and $58+ for acrylic. Our fill-in vs full set guide explains when each makes sense.

2. What a Professional Take-Off Includes

A careful removal is more than soaking. Here is what the fee covers.

  1. Filing down the top layer so acetone can reach the product underneath. This is the step that needs a light hand; filing into the natural nail is what causes damage.
  2. Protecting the skin. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying petroleum jelly to the cuticles and surrounding skin before acetone, because acetone left on skin can irritate it.
  3. Soaking. Acetone-soaked cotton is held against each nail. The AAD's home method uses a 10-minute wrap for gel; thicker products such as dip and acrylic take longer.
  4. Gently lifting softened product. Product that has softened slides off. Product that has not gets more soaking, not more force.
  5. Buffing and conditioning. Remaining residue is buffed smooth and the cuticles are oiled.

Hygiene. Nevada requires single-use items such as files and buffers to be thrown away after one client. The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology publishes the rule: "Single-use items must not be used on more than one client and must be disposed of after use." Our pricing page states that buffers and files are used only once and then discarded.

3. Why Removal Alone Costs More

It looks odd that removal with a new set is $15+ but removal on its own is $30+. Three reasons:

  • It uses a full appointment slot for one step. The soak time is the same whether or not a new set follows.
  • The finishing work is all in the removal. When a new set follows, shaping and prep overlap with the next service. Without one, buffing, shaping and conditioning are done as part of the take-off.
  • It is the safer choice when you are taking a break. We would rather you pay for a careful removal than prise product off at home.

When removal-only is the right call: you are taking a break from enhancements, your nails feel sore or thin, you have an event that needs bare nails, or you are switching to a different salon or product and want a clean start.

4. Removing Gel at Home: The Safe Way

If you prefer to do it yourself, follow the AAD's method for gel and never use force. According to its guide to removing gel polish, acetone is the most effective option, while "picking or filing off gel nail polish can significantly damage your nails."

The AAD's steps, summarised:

  1. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to each cuticle and the skin around it.
  2. Cut cotton to roughly the size of each nail and soak it in 100% acetone.
  3. Place the cotton on the nail and wrap with plastic food wrap.
  4. Leave for 10 minutes.
  5. Gently remove the softened gel. Do not use an orange stick to scrape it off.
  6. Wash with gentle soap and water.
  7. Rub petroleum jelly into the cuticles and surrounding skin daily for seven days.

Acrylic, dip and Gel-X are harder at home. The AAD notes that artificial nails often need to be soaked in acetone or filed off, which takes longer and is easier to get wrong. For those, a professional take-off is worth the $10–$30. Our safe nail enhancement removal guide explains the risks in more detail.

5. After Removal: Rest, Repair or Rebook?

How your nails look after removalWhat to do next
Smooth, firm, no sorenessRebook straight away if you like
Slightly dry or white patchesMoisturise and consider a plain manicure for a cycle
Thin, bendy or peelingTake a break; keep nails short and moisturised
Sore, red or swollen skinSee a doctor before any new service

Taking a break does not mean bare, ragged nails. A classic manicure ($35) with regular polish, or a Buff Shine ($10+), keeps nails tidy while they recover. The AAD also points out that gel is more flexible than acrylic, so if your nails are fragile, a gel manicure may be gentler than going straight back to acrylic.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does nail removal cost in Las Vegas?

At Marvelous Nails & Lashes, it is $10+ to take off dip or Gel-X, $15+ to take off other product with a new service, and $30+ for removal on its own. Gel removal is included with gel manicures.

Is gel removal included in a gel manicure?

Yes. Our gel manicure ($55), soft gel pedicure ($65) and gel polish change ($45+) all include soak-off and removal of existing gel.

How much does it cost to take off acrylic nails?

Removing acrylic before a new set is $15+. Removing it with no new service is $30+. Thick or long sets can take longer and cost more.

Why is removal without a new service more expensive?

It uses a full appointment for one step, and all the shaping, buffing and conditioning happen as part of the take-off rather than overlapping with a new set.

Can I remove gel nails at home?

Yes, with acetone and patience. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends petroleum jelly on the skin, acetone-soaked cotton wrapped for 10 minutes, and never picking or filing the gel off.

How long does nail removal take?

Gel soaks off fastest. Dip, acrylic and thick hard gel take longer because acetone needs more time to soften them. Allow extra time if you are booking removal and a new set together.

Does removal damage your nails?

Careful removal should not. Damage comes from filing into the natural nail or forcing product off before it has softened.

Should I take a break after removing acrylic?

If your nails feel thin, bendy or sore, yes. Keep them short and moisturised, and consider a plain manicure for a cycle before going back to enhancements.
