The thing people misjudge: it is not that salons are full on the 31st. It is that they are full from roughly the 27th, and the long art slots were gone before that.
1. The Real Booking Deadlines

2. Designs That Work Under Club Lighting
NYE is spent almost entirely in low, coloured, moving light. That changes which nails actually read.
What works:
- Silver or chrome, full set. Mirror finishes catch every light source in the room. This is the most-requested NYE finish we do, by a distance.
- Champagne and soft gold. Warmer than silver and flattering on more skin tones.
- Micro-glitter suspended in the top coat. Depth and sparkle without the texture or the removal problem of a full glitter nail.
- Deep red, high gloss. The classic. Reads as formal rather than festive, and works with everything.
- Black with a chrome or metallic accent. Sharp, modern, and photographs extremely well against sequins.
- Glazed milky nude. If the outfit is doing the work, this is the right restraint.
- A single foil accent nail. The cheapest way to get a genuine NYE look.
What does not work:
- Flat cream mid-tones. Dusty pink, beige, muted mauve — all of them go grey and disappear in club light.
- Matte finishes. Matte kills light return, which is the opposite of what the night needs.
- Very fine, delicate line work. Beautiful in daylight, invisible at arm's length in a dark room.

- Go earlier in the day. A 10:30 AM appointment on the 30th is far easier to get than a 6:00 PM one.
- Be flexible on colour. "Something metallic" gets you in. "This exact shade from this photo" may not.

Art is quoted at the appointment, because one chrome accent and ten hand-painted nails are forty minutes and a large price gap apart. Ask for the total including art before the work starts. 5. Surviving the Night and the Flight Home
Gel is the only sensible choice for NYE. Regular polish on a night that runs from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM, through champagne, handbags, coats and crowds, will chip. Gel will not.
If you break a nail on the night, do not glue it or tape it. Clean it gently with soap and water, apply petroleum jelly and cover it with gauze if it is torn into the skin — and do not put sticky products on your nail, because an adhesive bandage stuck to the nail plate pulls it further when it comes off. If it is hanging, gently trim away the part not connected to your skin.
See a doctor rather than a salon if you can't bend your finger or toe; if blood covers more than half your nail; if your nail is black or purple; or if your injury is particularly painful. On a night involving heels, crowds and heavy doors, that is worth knowing.
